December 1, 2009 is the 22nd World AIDS Day, the theme for 2009 is 'Universal Access and Human Rights', which emphasized that the universal access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support was the highest priority as for human rights protection.
To support World AIDS Day, researchers from Institute Pasture of Shanghai (IPS)gave lectures in Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences (SIBS) and AREVA company in Beijing.
· Scientific lecture- Scientific Challenges in Vaccine Development against HIV
On November 30, IPS co-organized with Shanghai Pasteur Health Research Foundation (SPHRF) to hold a scientific lecture at SIBS, Prof. Paul Zhou, researcher of IPS working on HIV, gave a presentation on Scientific Challenges in Vaccine Development against HIV. He pointed out that human had not found the safe and effective AIDS vaccine, there were still some major challenges in vaccine development, so it was still a long way to go for scientists to solve these problems. At last, Prof. Zhou hoped more young scientists participate in AIDS vaccine research.
· Presentation on AIDS/HIV prevention
On Dec. 1st, Dr. Xiaowei Mo, the Medical Officer of IPS gave a presentation on HIV/AIDS prevention in AREVA Beijing company. About 30 staffs participated the event. Through presentation, playing games and discussion, they came to understand the basic knowledge on HIV/AIDS epidemic, transmission, high-risk behaviors and prevention.
