From January 5 to 6, the Shanghai Institute of Immunity and Infection (SIII) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) held a seminar on high-quality development strategy. Prof. ZHAO Guoping - Member of CAS，Prof. JIN Ningyi - Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Prof. XIA Ningshao - Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering，and other experts attended the meeting. Mr. LI Zhenghua, Secretary of the Party Leader Group of the Shanghai Branch of CAS and also Secretary of the Party Committee of the Shanghai District, delivered a special tutorial speech.

In addition, all members of the Institute Board, PIs, associate researchers, postdoctoral fellows, heads of management departments and representatives of administrative departments at SIII attended the meeting.

Mr. LI Zhenghua pointed out that strategic planning, platform construction, reform of scientific research organization mode, and talents are essential to the overall development of the Institute. Meanwhile, the Institute needs to further optimize the talent evaluation and incentive mechanism, and vigorously promote the spirit of scientists. He emphasized that the Institute should strive to produce a batch of key, original and leading major scientific and technological achievements to promote the rapid development of the Institute.

Prof. JIANG Lubin, Director General of SIII, made a detailed development report. He proposed to focus on the layout and carry out the reform of scientific research organization mode; to reshape the team and build a high-level talent highland in the field of infection and immunity; to enhance the effectiveness and build a first-class support and management system. The purpose is to push the Institute into "an original research institution in immunity and infection field, a key industrialization platform for prevention and treatment technologies, and a leading education and training base for talents”.

Mr. CHEN Fengwei, the Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director, conveyed CAS annual report and required the entire Institute to work hard and act quickly to make new achievements for scientific and technological self-reliance at a high level.

At the meeting, the experts gave their suggestions on SIII’s development, and were presented the certificates of Strategic Advisory Committee by Prof. JIANG Lubin.

As one of the major reform measures in the research organization mode, the Institute has set up seven research labs, which focus on Immunometabolic regulation of Infection and Inflammation, Inflammatory Immune Mechanisms and Translational Applications, Immune Intervention for Infection, Inflammation and Cancer, Pathogen Resistance Mechanisms and Innovative Drugs, Virus-Host Interaction and Antiviral Strategies, Nucleic Acid Functions and Future Technologies in Pathogenic Infection and Immunity, and Novel Vaccine and Antibody Development etc.. On behalf of different labs, Profs SHAO Mengle, LIU Xing, ZHANG Xiaoming, WANG Chengyuan, JIU Yaming, CHAO Yanjie and LAN Jiaming reported research ideas respectively.

Prof. HUANG Wei, the new PI of Anti-infection and Anti-tumor Immunity Unit, reported the research direction and progress.
