On September 5-6, “First CAS-CONICET Joint Workshop on Neuroscience and Infectious Diseases” was co-organized by Shanghai Institute of Immunity and Infection (SIII) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and CAS Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology (CEBSIT) in Shanghai. The delegation led by Prof. Ana Franchi, President of the Argentinean National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET), and the CAS delegation led by Mr. WANG Zhenyu, Deputy Director of the Bureau of International Cooperation, Prof. POO Muming, Academic Director of CEBSIT, Prof. SHI Yongyong, Deputy Director of CEBSIT, and Prof JIANG Lubin, Deputy Director of SIII, attended the symposium.
Twelve senior scholars from China and Argentina shared their cutting-edge research progress and achievements in the field of infectious diseases. Dr. Hugo Ortega, Dr. Cristina Ibarra, Dr. Horacio Salomón, Dr. Fabiana Bigi, Dr. Juliana Cassataro, Dr. Daniela Hozbor, Dr. Gabriel Morón from Argentinean delegation reported their research on the pathogenic mechanism, clinical and Clinical research and vaccine development of human tuberculosis, AIDS, resurgentrespiratory diseases and other related diseases.
Dr. ZHOU Xi, Deputy Director of Wuhan Institute of Virology, shared Antiviral RNAi immunity - from basic to translational research. Dr. JIANG Lubin, Dr. CHEN Changbin, Dr. LIU Bo and Dr. LAN Jiaming from SIII reported their research on epigenetic regulation of malaria pathogenesis, deciphering the virulence mechanisms of Candida auris, Intracellular trafficking of nucleic acid-sensing TLRs and Broad-spectrum vaccines completely protected the Syrian hamsters against Nipah virus infection of Malaysia and Bangladesh strains respectively.
During the academic exchange session, both sides had active and in-depth discussions. After the seminar, scientists of both countries also held a roundtable discussion on application for research projects, international exchange and cooperation, postgraduate training etc. in the fields of infectious diseases and neuroscience.
Before the meeting, the delegation of CEBSIT visited the Group of Malaria Parasite Epigenetics and Public Technical Service Center.
