On April 17, under the witness of Prof. ZHANG Yaping, Deputy President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Ms. Sra. María Julia Munoz, Minister of Education and Culture of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, Prof. TANG Hong, Director General of the Institut Pasteur of Shanghai, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IPS-CAS), and Prof. Carlos Batthyány, Director of the Institut Pasteur of Montevideo (IPM), signed the “Memorandum of Understanding between Institut Pasteur of Montevideo and Institut Pasteur of Shanghai, Chinese Academy of Sciences”.
According to the memorandum, IPS-CAS and IPM will cooperate in the fields of immunology, virology, vaccines, structural biology, emerging diseases, human and animal health and application development through scientific, educational, cultural and academic exchanges between the two institutions. The two sides will conduct close exchanges of personnel (including the researchers, postgraduates and postdocs), apply jointly for scientific research projects, organize various conferences and training, and cooperate on the academic publications and other information exchanges.
The signing ceremony was part of the exchange meeting between the delegation led by the Minister of Education and Culture of Uruguay and the Deputy President of CAS- Prof. ZHANG Yaping. At the meeting, Prof. TANG Hong introduced the previous exchanges between IPS-CAS and IPM, which are both the members of the Institut Pasteur International Network. Through the meetings and exchanges, the two institutes agreed to make further cooperation on the educational exchanges between students and researchers, apply jointly for the scientific research projects and so on. Finally the two sides reached the intention of signing the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation and signed successfully. Ms. Sra. María Julia Munoz and Prof. ZHANG Yaping expressed their appreciation for the close cooperation between the two institutes in scientific research and highly appreciated the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation.
The ambassador of Uruguay in China and the representatives of the University of Uruguay, the University of Science and Technology of Uruguay, the Bureau of International Co-operation, CAS, and the Northeast Institute of Geography and Agroecilogy, CAS attended the meeting.
