AREVA and Institut Pasteur of Shanghai, Chinese Academy of Sciences renewed their partnership on control of viral emerging infectious diseases
The AREVA Foundation and Institut Pasteur of Shanghai, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IPS-CAS), have decided to pursue the work they first jointly undertook in 2004 to combat emerging diseases. On Nov.25, AREVA CEO, Anne Lauvergeon, AREVA Foundation President, Gérald Arbola, Professor Alice Dautry, Director General of Institut Pasteur and Professor Vincent Deubel, Director General of IPS-CAS have signed the renewal agreement in Paris on November 26, 2008. His Excellency Mr. Kong Quan, the Ambassador of China in France, honored the partners with the privilege of his presence at the ceremomy.
The partnership will enable IPS-CAS to reinforce its activities in areas such as:
- High-level scientific training,
- Supporting young Chinese scientists,
- Personnel information and risk prevention,
- Basic AIDS research, allowing AREVA to repeat and strengthen its commitment to fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Over the past three years, AREVA and IPS-CAS have been collaborating on 3 courses (on avian flu, HIV and HCV respectively) and 3 forums focusing on the impact of climate change on emerging infectious diseases. These courses and forums have attracted several hundreds of professors, post-docs, research assistants and graduate students from China and other countries. They have served as a useful platform of exchanges and opened a door for collaborations across the world. In addition, with the generous support of AREVA, several young scientists of IPS-CAS are working on respiratory viruses and HIV.
